Ronald Bathaw, M.D. FAAOS

Dr. Ronald Bathaw established Palm Harbor Orthopedics in Flagler County in March of 1987. He’s been in private practice since 1984 and is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He is skilled orthopedist devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries and disease of your body’s musckoskeletal system, which includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves that allow you to move, work and be active.

As most orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Bathaw is a medical doctor with extensive training. His 14 years of formal education include study at the College of Charleston, South Carolina, and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, orthopedic rotation and residency at the Alton Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Each year Dr. Bathaw spends many hours studying and continuing his medical education to maintain current orthopedic knowledge and skills. He currently serves on the Medical Staffs of Memorial Hospital-Flagler and Ormond Beach.

Helpful Glossary of Terms

Here is a brief overview of a few common terms you may hear in orthopedic treatment.

Arthritis
An inflammatory condition affecting the joints.
Arthroscopic Knee Repair
A fiber optic procedure, used to surgically repair of any of the knee ligaments.
Arthroscopy
Using a small, lighted telescope to look inside the joint.
Bone Density Test
A test to measure the mineral density of bone and used to diagnose osteopenia and osteoporosis.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
A disorder of the hand, where the affected nerves cause pain and possible loss of feeling.

A common fracture of the wrist, often caused by a fall on an outstretched hand.
Ligament
Tissue that connects bone to bone.

Osteopenia
A decrease in bone mass below the normal.
Osteoporosis
A disease distinguished by a decrease in bone mass and density.
